Kahne Demolishes Kansas Qualifying Record

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Kasey Kahne has the fresh asphalt at Kansas Speedway to thank for the track record he set during qualifying Friday for the Hollywood Casino 400.

Kahne blistered the recently repaved venue to the tune of 28.219 seconds at 191.360 mph to score his fourth pole of the year and the 26th of his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series pole. Mark Martin will start alongside him during Sunday in the No. 55 Toyota for Michael Waltrip Racing.

Clint Bowyer qualified third after winning last Saturday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Kyle Busch and Aric Almirola completed the top five in qualifying.

Championship leader Brad Keselowski qualified 25th in the No. 2 Penske Racing Dodge. Second-place Jimmie Johnson will start seventh, with third-place Denny Hamlin timing in ninth.

The go-or-go-homers that qualified for Sunday’s race were Michael McDowell, J.J. Yeley, Mike Bliss, Trevor Bayne, Reed Sorenson, Scott Speed, Joe Nemechek and Kelly Bires.

Cole Whitt, David Stremme and Josh Wise failed to qualify.
