Kyle Busch Garners Loudon Pole
LOUDON, N.H. – Kyle Busch set a track record during NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying Friday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway en route to winning his second pole of the season.
Busch’s 27.574-second lap at 138.130 mph was enough to give him the top spot over six-time series champion Jimmie Johnson, who will start second in Sunday’s Camping World RV Sales 301.
“I gave it everything I had. I thought I was a little too tight but I guess I was just driving through it enough that it was still carrying some good speed,” Busch said. “Lap felt good, it didn’t feel that good, but it felt good and I was thinking it was going to be a solid top-four (start) so I’m real proud of these guys on this Interstate Batteries Camry today.”
Denny Hamlin qualified third, followed by Tony Stewart and Jamie McMurray. Joey Logano, Brad Keselowski, Clint Bowyer, Martin Truex Jr., Kasey Kahne, Jeff Gordon and Kevin Harvick completed the fastest 12 drivers in the final round of qualifying Friday.
Hamlin paced the first round of qualifying with his 137.195 mph lap. Logano, Keselowski, Busch and Johnson followed. Just missing advancing to the second and final round of qualifying were Kyle Larson, Matt Kenseth, Paul Menard and Brian Vickers.
