Lightning At Pocono Kills One, Injures Nine
LONG POND, Pa. – A lightning strike from the storm cell that forced the stoppage of Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway has killed one fan and injured nine more.
The lighting strike happened shortly after Sunday’s race was called after 98 of 160 laps. Five of the fans were treated for injuries at the track, while the other five were transported to a local hospitals.
Upon arrival at one of the local hospitals, one fan was pronounced dead. Further details have not been announced.
Pocono Raceway had previously revealed that of the fans transported to the hospital, two were listed as critical, one as moderate and two as minor.
