LONG POND, Pa. — A long frustrating season got a little better for Juan Pablo Montoya Saturday at Pocono Raceway.

Montoya drove his Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet to the top qualifying position for Sunday’s Pennsylvania 400 at the 2.5-mile triangular track with a lap of 176.043

“We all get frustrated. We always have our moments,” said Montoya. “I will tell you the truth if you don’t get frustrated it is because you don’t care. I care a lot about this program.”

Montoya edged Toyota driver Denny Hamlin, who turned a lap 175.795 mph.

Third was Paul Menard in a Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet with Kasey Kahne fourth in a Hendrick Motorsports Chevy. Fifth was Richard Petty Motorsports driver Marcos Ambrose in a Ford.

Stephen Leicht was the only driver to fail to qualify for the 43-car field.
