CONCORD, N.C. – Ryan Newman will remain as driver of the No. 39 Stewart Haas Racing Chevrolet in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series after signing a one-year extension with the team.

The team is still in search of sponsorship to replace U.S. Army, which announced earlier this year it would not return as the primary sponsor of Newman and the No. 39 team in 2013.

Newman joined Stewart Haas Racing in 2009 when Tony Stewart became majority owner of the organization. Since joining the team he has won three races, scored 22 top fives, 54 top 10s and six poles.
