Rodney Childers Leaving MWR

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Officials with Michael Waltrip Racing confirmed Saturday at Bristol Motor Speedway that Crew Chief Rodney Childers will be leaving the team.

He is expected to join Stewart-Haas Racing, where he will be paired with Kevin Harvick beginning with the 2014 season.

Childers joined MWR in 2009 as crew chief for David Reutimann. Together they won two races, including the 2009 Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Last year Childers took over as crew chief on the No. 55 Toyota shared by Mark Martin, Brian Vickers and Michael Waltrip. Childers and the team visited victory lane last month at New Hampshire Motor Speedway with Vickers behind the wheel.

No replacement for Childers at MWR has been named at this time. It has not been decided if Childers will finish the season with the team before departing.
