CONCORD, N.C. – Martin Truex Jr. will start from the pole during the Sprint Showdown qualifying race prior to Saturday’s NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Truex claimed the pole for the event during Friday’s qualifying session, besting 22 other cars with a 27.918-second lap at 193.424 mph in his Toyota Camry. Jamie McMurray’s Chevrolet SS will join him on the front row for the 40-lap event.

“It was a good day for us,” Truex said. “Obviously a good qualifying lap for us. Wasn’t really sure to expect going out there. It was really hot for practice today. We always talk about Charlotte being one of the most difficult places to practice during the day and then go out when the track cools down and go really fast. The guys did a good job making some good adjustments for qualifying and looking forward to tomorrow night. We’ve got 40 laps to get it done.”

Juan Pablo Montoya qualified third, followed by rookie Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Casey Mears. Jeff Burton, Danica Patrick, Paul Menard, J.J. Yeley and Landon Cassill.
