CONCORD, N.C. – Defending NHRA Top Fuel champion Antron Brown will test a NASCAR stock car for Rev Racing next week at Virginia’s Motor Mile Speedway.

Brown, who drives for Don Schumacher Racing in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, will test a NASCAR K&N Pro Series Toyota on May 28 alongside NASCAR Drive for Diversity drivers Bryan Ortiz, Daniel Suarez, Mackena Bell and Ryan Gifford.

“I’ve got a lot of friends down here in NASCAR,” Brown said. “Me and Max (Siegel) have talked about this for years. I’ve always wanted to come out here and see if I actually had the ability to turn left.

“I’m just looking forward to this opportunity and hopefully we can take it to other levels.”

According to Max Siegel, the CEO of Rev Racing, the test is the result of three years of discussions between himself and Brown.

“Antron is extremely competitive,” Siegel said. “What we wanted to do is put together a training program that takes him from the very beginning stages of testing his ability and talent. He definitely has the passion and interest to compete on a national scale.

“What we don’t want to do is put the cart before the horse. We wanted to find a time in his career he was ready to test a car and he was focused on trying another form of motorsports. He has no shortage of friends in the garage and no shortage of passion for the industry, so for us we’d like to see him grow and compete at the highest level possible. But we want to be realistic about the nature of the development process,” Siegel said.

There are no immediate plans for Brown, who is currently third in the NHRA Top Fuel championship standings, to compete in a NASCAR-sanctioned event. However, Brown said the point of the test is to assess his skill set and see if he has what it takes to drive a stock car.

“It would be great to actually race in a race one time,” Brown said. “We’re just going to take it one step at a time. I just want to take steps to learn everything and actually develop my ability to drive (on) ovals. I know I can go straight, but now I’ve got to put a left-hand turn in there. We’ll see where it goes from there.”
