NURBURG, Germany – French rookie Thomas Ferrando completed his fantastic weekend with a second consecutive NASCAR Whelen Euro Series ELITE 2 division win at the Nurburgring Sunday by outracing a fierce group of fellow rookies.

After a problematic start from the pole in which he lost two places to Maxime Dumarey and Gianmarco Ercoli, the Young Drivers Program member went on the attack and Salvador Tineo Arroyo joined the four-way battle. The drivers went constantly on the limit and exchanged position several times, wrestling their cars with big slides and deep moves under braking.

Dumarey initially took the lead but lost two places in the last corner on lap three and Ercoli jumped out front. Sadly the Italian had to retire a few laps later due to an electrical problem, leaving Ferrando in the lead. The Frenchman opened a 6.9 seconds gap and crossed the finish line ahead of Tineo Arroyo, who won the duel with Dumarey with a splendid last lap pass in the second weekend of his NASCAR career.

“Once again I had a difficult start and in the first laps I struggled a little bit under braking. This morning I wasn’t thinking about sweeping the weekend, but gaining points for the championship,” said Ferrando, who is the fourth different driver to sweep this year’s ELITE 2 weekends. “It’s a very good achievement.”

The finish:

Thomas Ferrando, Salvador Tineo Arroyo, Maxime Dumarey, Philipp Lietz, Stienes Longin, Simone Laureti, Marcal Melo, Ruggero Melgrati, Ulysse Delsaux, Amir El Hage, Leonard Vernet, Didier Bec, Eric Quintal, Franck Violas, Erika Monforte, Alex Fabiano, Gianmarco Ercoli, Denis Dupont, Nathalie Maillet.
