Moffitt & Hattori Continue Partnership
GRIMES, Iowa – Brett Moffitt will drive the Hattori Racing Enterprises Toyota Camry in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and will drive a limited number of races in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series for the team during the 2013 season.
Moffitt began his career in NASCAR in 2009, where he has since amassed nine wins, eight poles and season championship podium finishes in four consecutive years in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. During 2012, Moffitt led a full 40% of all laps run by the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East during the entire race season. He made his debut in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2012 at Iowa Speedway, finishing a very respectable ninth in his first series start.
HRE has retained the services of Dave McCarty as Moffitt’s K&N Series East Crew Chief for the coming season. McCarty’s talent and leadership were vital parts of the team’s success in 2012.
Shigeaki Hattori, owner of HRE, has maintained his relationships with the same group of sponsors who were instrumental in HRE’s success in 2012, including Aisin AW; Kobe Toyopet; Toyopet Saitama; Don Valley Toyota; Toyota Technical College, Tokyo; Goodyear; and NASCAR
HRE’s current plan for the Truck Series is to debut at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 17. The team also plans to enter events at Kentucky Speedway on June 27, Michigan Int’l Speedway on Aug. 17, Iowa Speedway on Sept. 8, possibly Phoenix Int’l Raceway on Nov. 8 and the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Nov. 15.
Sponsorship permitting, more races will be added to HRE’s Truck Series schedule.
HRE confirmed that Randy Goss will be a part of the Truck Series team. Goss is a proven winner who led the Rev Racing Toyota team to a championship in 2012 and served as Greg Biffle’s Crew Chief during his championship years in the Truck Series and the Nationwide Series.
“Hattori Racing is still putting people into place for the upcoming season, so we do not have all of the answers yet on how the team will work or exactly how the remaining pieces will come together,” Moffitt said. “We finished on the championship podium in 2012 in the K&N Pro Series East during HRE’s first year as a race team, so we expect to do well again in the K&N Series. Transitioning into the Truck Series in the team’s second year is a big step with a lot to learn, and we are really excited to get started.”
Moffitt also retains his alliance with Michael Waltrip Racing (MWR) in 2013 and will continue to test their Sprint Cup cars. Moffitt has already run more than 1,800 laps during test sessions for the new Gen-6 Cup cars this year, but there are still additional aspects of the cars that they want to test. Moffitt will be off to another test session this week where he will keep logging laps in the Gen-6.
