CONCORD, N.C. – Burt Myers inherited the lead with 13 laps left and cruised to his second NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour victory at Charlotte Motor Speedway Thursday night during the season ending UNOH Southern Slam 150.

Myers, who also won at Charlotte in 2010, was running second when race-long leader Ryan Preece suddenly fell off the pace on lap 137 with an engine issue, handing the race lead to the multi-time Bowman Gray Stadium modified champion.

With runner-up Kyle Ebersole more than a second behind him, Myers was able to easily lead the final 13 laps to pick up the victory.

“It was a little bit unexpected there when the 41 (Preece) quit,” Myers said after his third victory of the season and 11th of his career. “The guys never stopped working. We adjusted on the car all the way up to the start of the race and right before qualifying.”

“This is the first time we’ve been here and we didn’t bring out Bowman Gray car. I was a little bit worried about that because the Bowman Gray car is usually my old faithful, but this car was really, really good. We were a little off of the 41, but hey, here we are,”

George Brunnhoelzl III finished third to lock up his third-straight series championship and fourth overall. Both are series records.

“We were here for the win of course, but also to celebrate the championship,” Brunnhoelzl said. “Each year the competition has definitely gotten stiffer and stiffer. We’ve had to improve our performance and step up our game to stay on top. We’re looking to develop some new ideas over the offseason and take things up another notch next year.”

Tim Brown led a few laps early after starting second before fading to fourth at the finish. Danny Bohn came from 11th at the start to complete the top five.
