NASCAR Penalizes Two East Series Teams

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — NASCAR announced today the No. 07 and No. 49 teams that compete in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East have been penalized as a result of rules violations committed June 2 at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The No. 07 car driven by race winner Corey LaJoie was found to be in violation of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4-I (any determination by NASCAR officials that the race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules); and 20C-12.1B (The free height of the bare rear coil springs must not be greater than 15 inches and must not be less than 11 inches – the left rear spring exceeded the maximum height) of the 2012 NASCAR rule book. The violation was discovered during post-race inspection.

Ron Otto, crew chief of car No. 07, has been fined $750 and suspended from NASCAR until the fine is paid.

The No. 49 car driven by Sean Caisse was found to be in violation of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4-I (any determination by NASCAR officials that the race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules); and 20C-4.1B (As an option, teams may compete in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series with a NASCAR-approved spec engine. If used, the spec engine must be completely assembled using only NASCAR-approved spec engine components without any modifications. All parts, pieces and components that are used in the spec engine must originate from an approved NASCAR supplier – Unapproved accelerator pump discharge nozzle) of the 2012 NASCAR rule book. The violation was discovered during opening day inspection.

Mark Durgin, crew chief of car No. 49, has been fined $1,500; suspended from NASCAR until the fine is paid; and placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31, 2012.
