Logano Delivers For Penske At Chicagoland

The field returned to green flag racing with 15 laps left and Hornish and Logano quickly began fighting for the lead. Logano, using the high side to gain momentum in the first two corners, was able to overtake Hornish in turn three to take the race lead.

Once out front Logano built a small but comfortable lead over Hornish, who tried desperately in the closing laps to close the gap. It was a fruitless effort however as Logano held on to score his 20th Nationwide victory by .291 of a second over Hornish, giving Penske Racing a sweep of the top two positions.

“I don’t know if it was the car to beat, but it was as we kept working on the car,” Logano said of the No. 22 Ford he drove to victory. “At the beginning of the race it was kind of a third or fourth place car. Jeremy (Bullins, crew chief) made great changes throughout the race to make it a little better.

“That is pretty cool being one-two. That is huge for points for this 22 car and for the 12 car. We’re trying to get the owners (title) and the drivers’ championship.”

The victory moved the No. 22 team to within 37 points of the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 54 in the battle for the Nationwide Series owners’ championship. Hornish also leaves Chicagoland as the drivers’ championship leader by seven points over Regan Smith.

Dillon finished third and pocketed the $100,000 Nationwide Dash4Cash bonus for the second-straight week. Sadler, who led a race-high 81 laps, was fourth ahead of New Hampshire Sprint Cup winner Brian Vickers.
