LUCASVILLE, Ohio - Audie Swartz, a pioneering racer who finished second in the inaugural Knoxville Nationals in 1961, died June 30 following an illness. He was 84.
He was born May 22, 1926, in Bedford, Ind., and began racing while living in Muncie. His early success came in roadsters, later migrating to supermodifieds and sprint cars.
