Kyle Lucas Set For ProLite Drive
Kyle Lucas is the grandson of Lucas Oil founder Forrest Lucas, and this year he’ll be stepping up his racing program.
Lucas will drive a ProLite Truck for Jeff Carpenter Racing in the ProLite Truck class of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series.
I have been racing for 13 years. I was 9 years old when I began racing go-karts and I moved through the ranks for six years,” Kyle Lucas said. “Since then I have been racing off road buggies for seven years. Last year in 2011, we moved into the SuperLite class for a couple of races. That was a lot of fun and we did fairly well, but I am really excited to step up into a professional truck class.”
Lucas wants to race, but acknowledges the company his grandfather has built.
“It has been a lifelong dream to become a professional race car driver,” Lucas said. “At the same time, I would like to stay highly involved in my grandfather’s company, Lucas Oil. I currently work at our Indiana facility when I’m not at school or racing. I am very proud of what my grandparents [Forrest and Charlotte] have started, and I am pursing a degree in Industrial Manufacturing. I hope to support the company and grow Lucas Oil wherever and whenever we can.”
This will be Lucas’ first season in a pro class vehicle.
“I have changed my diet and have been hitting the gym a lot here lately. School is a real priority so I am always really busy with college,” he said. “I always have lots of things going and it is so easy to get distracted from the end goal. But I intend to develop my aptitude as a racer, so I must stay focused and sharp. There are a million little things that go along with being a racer like putting deals together for sponsors and teaming up with a quality race program like Jeff Carpenter Racing Inc. I don’t think it has really sunk in that I’m going to be racing in a pro class driving the SpeedCo ProLite. A few months ago, I did not even know if I would be racing the 2012 season.”
Based in Perris, Calif., Jeff Carpenter Racing will field a Ford Rancer for Lucas this season.BREAKING NEWS: SPEED SPORT is back in print with a new monthly format! Subscribe for just $24.95. Special offer for former subscribers.
