ROLLER: Le Mans Adventures 2013

One tire manufacturer participates at Indy — Firestone — while at Le Mans, even though Michelin and Dunlop dominate this year’s entries, all are invited and Yokohama, Avon, Goodyear, Firestone, Bridgestone, Hankook and Falken have a shot at glory at la Sarthe.

The ACO (Automobile Club of the Ouest) administers and runs the 24 Hours of Le Mans and is focused on innovation and relevance. They annually save one entry to this invitation only affair for a concept car, something that is perhaps not exactly to the current rules, but an entry that looks to prove a new technology.

A year ago Don Panoz brought a wild new, narrow track “DeltaWing” racer to the event. This year the slot was held for a hydrogen-powered entry that unfortunately was not ready in time. On Friday we are expecting the announcement of something new and radical form Nissan for Garage 56 in 2014.

So, from here, the festival, spectacle, the technology and 24 hours of multiclass non-stop action make Le Mans The Greatest Race in the World.

You can follow me on twitter @jrollerLM24 and hear all the action from practice qualifying and the race at starting Wednesday at 6 a.m. ET.
