Bloomington Confirms 2011 Schedule

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Bloomington Speedway Promoter Mike Miles has revealed the 2011 schedule at the historic quarter-mile dirt track, including visits by USAC and the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.

The World Of Outlaws Sprint Car Series will return Aug. 5, and USAC has three visits scheduled. Local racers will comprise the majority of the Friday night racing, with 20 nights of racing scheduled along with some popular summer programs and increased prize money at one if its biggest traditional events.

Bloomington officials have also added a new, entry-level series for young racers looking to gain experience.

USAC’s AMSOIL National Sprint Car Series have both the traditional Indiana Sprint Week event on July 15 and the Larry Rice Classic, now moved to May 20, on the schedule. On June 10, USAC’s Mopar National Midget Series joins Bloomington’s sprint cars for an open-wheel doubleheader as part of Indiana Midget Week.

In other high-profile sprint-car competition, Bloomington opens the 2011 King of Indiana Sprint Series (KISS) tour May 6 as Jon Stanbrough begins his quest for a sixth series championship. On June 24 the Sheldon Kinser Memorial will feature a higher purse offering $4,000 to the winner and $350 to start. As the summer begins to wind down, the Sept.16 Fall Clash will showcase the Midwest Sprint Car Series with a $5,000 payday.

Once the gates open on April 15, the action heats up quickly as the track’s sprint cars, UMP-sanctioned modifieds and super stocks are joined by the new hornet division. The hornet division features stock front-wheel-drive chassis’s with a 104-inch wheelbase, four-cylinder engines of the same year and model for the chassis and automatic or standard transmissions.

Miles has also added an option to the hornet division that allows him to claim any car for $1,400. With drivers as young as 13 years old allowed to compete, the hornets will also run at Brownstown (Ind.) Speedway.

In other highlights, the American Modified Series will compete May 13 and July 8. Also, any driver winning two consecutive features will have to start 10th the next week, except for the hornet division, where each winner will start the next feature in 10th.
