Kanke, Hunt, Thorn Share Postponed Irwindale Paydays

IRWINDALE, Calif. — M.K. Kanke won the 110-lap SRL Spears Southwest Tour feature for late-model stock cars Sunday at Toyota Speed-way @ Irwindale after rain forced postponement of the race Saturday.

Kanke held off SRL regular Ross Strmiska for the victory at the half-mile asphalt oval. Chasing them to the finish were Jonathan Gomez, Scott Sanchez and Brennan Newberry.

In other action, Duane Hunt, Jr. won the Super Late Model 100, which was also postponed to Sunday by rain. Hunt was declared the winner after Ryan Reed and R.J. Johnson, Jr. crashed while battling for the lead with two laps left, handing the triumph to Hunt. Only three of 18 cars that started the race finished.

In the only feature completed Saturday night, Derek Thorn wired the late-model feature despite serious challenges from Nick Joanides. It began to rain on lap 65 and the cars rolled around the track under the caution flag until officials called the race on lap 73.
