Barr & Alleman Lead Williams Grove Winners

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – On a cold, blustery evening, more favorable to ice hockey then automobile racing, former ice hockey player and coach Rick Barr won the opening Williams Grove Speedway Blazer’s Body Shop Super Sportsman feature.

Wes Alleman had a tremendous battle with Jared Miller to capture the victory in the Newville Electrical Services 358 Late Models. Mike Buckley, the winner of the final 2012 Street Stock feature, continued his successful ways, winning the Newville Construction Services Street Stock main.

Rick Barr, driving his older Mach 1 Chassis No. 00, started on the pole and sprinted into the lead. Paul Miller, the third-place starter, was in second position. Miller chased Barr around the half-mile oval, often just three lengths behind the leader.

The driver on the move was Russ Mitten. Mitten, the eighth-place starter, found a lane on the outside. By lap 12 Mitten passed third-place driver Jay Fannasy. Four laps later he swept by Paul Miller. Using the outside lane, Miller quickly caught the leader. Mitten pulled even with Barr during the 17th lap.

The only caution of the race came with two laps remaining. Camp Hill’s Barr had a strong restart and gained a four-length edge. Mitten rallied on the final lap, making one final run at the top of turns three and four. Barr’s strong run off the bottom of turn four propelled him to a four-length win over Mitten. Miller was third, with Frankie Herr finishing in fourth, and Jay Fannasy was fifth.

Scott Geesey, Scott Dellinger, LeRoy Martin, and Mike Enders won the heat races for the 34-car field. David Socks III was the consolation victor.
