Bates Ends Penn Can Winless Streak

SUSQUEHANNA, Pa. — Kevin Bates grabbed his first win at Penn Can Speedway since the 2010 in the modified division Friday night.

Heavy track conditions promoted high speeds and side by side racing at the three-eighths-mile speedway. Bates surged into the lead on lap six after bypassing Joey Colsten on the inside of the third and fourth turns.

Seventh starter Mike Colsten moved into second on lap 20 and chased Bates closely for five laps but Bates was too strong as he pulled away to victory.

Paul Rooney put an end to his long winless streak by easily rolling to the win in the crate sportsman event. In the street-stock division, Steve Deinhardt held of a fast closing Earl Zimmer.

Gary Cleveland bested Steve Simpson in a race long battle to win in the factory stocks while Andy Brigham won in the four-cylinder class.
