Herr Rolls At Williams Grove
MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – Frankie Herr picked up the victory in the Super Sportsman main event at Williams Grove Speedway Saturday night.
LeRoy Martin started on the outside of the front row in the 20-lap Super Sportsman feature. Martin was the immediate leader with Steve Wilbur in second and Dave Berkheimer in third. Herr, the fifth place starter, was in fourth. By the end of the third lap, Herr advanced to second place.
One lap later leader LeRoy Martin dropped out of the event with mechanical problems. Herr was the new leader with Berkheimer in second and Scott Geesey in third. In the sixth lap, Geesey passed Berkheimer for second. Geesey was narrowing the gap between himself and leader Herr.
The race came to a halt on lap nine when fourth place driver Steve Wilbur and sixth place racer Jay Fannasy made contact in turn one. The two cars went into several hard flips. Jay Fannasy was stunned but able to exit his car. Steve Wilbur was unconscious for a few moments. The emergency crew transported Wilbur to Hershey Medical Center as a precautionary measurement.
After the restart, Herr continued to set the pace with Geesey in pursuit. Despite a late caution, Herr controlled the race. The Carlisle driver wins his second by eight lengths over Geesey, Berkheimer, Carmen Perigo Jr., and Mike Enders.
Other winners at Williams Grove Saturday night included Travis Mease (358 late models) and Sam Rial (street stocks).
