Howard Stops VonDohren At Grandview
BECHTELSVILLE, Pa. — Charging from 15th starting spot to take the lead with just six laps to go defending champion Duane Howard held off point leader Craig VonDohren to win his ninth 30-lap NASCAR Whelen 358 Modified stock car feature race of the season at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night.
Steve Nederostek took the honors in the 25-lap late model feature and Kenny Gilmore won the 25-lap feature for sportsman stock cars.
Jon Kellner Jr. held the top spot for 24 laps of the 30-lap 358 Modified feature race before Duane Howard was able to charge to the front and lead the final six laps to pick up $2750 ($250 coming from a TP Trailer bonus award). Finishing a very close second was Craig VonDohren followed by Nate Christman, Ryan Grim and Kyle Weiss.
The 25-lap main event for late models had Steve Nederostek getting the lead from early leader Wayne Pfeil on the 13th circuit and then holding off the challenges from Pfeil to grab the win, his first of the season, Pfeil finished second followed by Sam Schlosberg, Danny Snyder and Sean Merkel.
A multi-car wreck that included 11 cars got things started on the first lap of the 25-lap sportsman feature race. Once racing was underway Jamie Undercoffler set the early pace Mike Lisowski taking the top spot through the third lap. Kenny Gilmore went to the front on the fourth circuit and that is where he stayed until the checkered flag fell. Craig Whitmoyer got second followed by point leader Jared Umbenhauer, Joe Funk and Brad Brightbill.
