Longtime Announcer Johnny Long Dies

Longtime Dorney Park and Nazareth Speedway announcer Johnny Long passed away July 22 at age 83.

Long worked for race producer Jerry Freid from when he took over the popular Pennsylvania track in 1950. He called the action at Dorney Park in Allentown, Pa., until it closed in 1986.

A great old-style announcer gifted with an excellent voice. Long kept the fans entertained with his folksy sense of humor when there was a lull in the action.

A widower, Long had five children and lived in Catasaqua, Pa. He worked many years for the Tastycake Bakeries.
