ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. — Brian Montieth opened the central Pennsylvania sprint-car season with a dominating victory in the Icebreaker 30 at Lincoln Speedway Saturday afternoon.

Montieth, a three-time Lincoln track champion, started on the pole and led all 30 laps in the Jerry Parrish-owned sprinter.  He earned $3,500 for his 21st career Lincoln victory.

Montieth was never challenged despite numerous restarts and a red flag period to refuel. Daryn Pittman used all the restarts to his advantage as he passed a car every restart and by the halfway point was into second from the ninth starting spot.

Montieth, of Phoenixville, Pa., was in command though as he drove away from the field on every restart over the final 15 laps. Pittman settled for second ahead of Adam Wilt, Cory Haas and Chad Layton.

“I knew if I screwed up, wheel-spun, missed the cushion, missed my mark, [Pittman] was going to drive by,” Montieth said. “There was more concentration on this race than any of them.”
