Pittman The Best At Port Royal

PORT ROYAL, Pa. – Darryn Pittman dominated a small but talented sprint car field, Scott Haus turned back the best a full field of late models could throw at him, and John Heane stole a pro stock victory on the last corner during 60th annual Labor Day Classic at Port Royal Speedway Monday afternoon.

Pittman started third and tracked defending race winner Mike Wagner for seven laps before taking the lead as they encounter the first group of cars being lapped.

Wagner stayed close for a while but then fell back into the clutches of Chad Layton, losing the runner-up spot to the newly crowned track champion with five to go.

After 25 laps with no cautions, pit stops, or retirements, Pittman took the checker with a straightaway lead over Layton. Wagner was third with Justin Hrnderson, who came from tenth on the slick afternoon surface, charging to fourth.

Todd Shaffer and Keith Kauffman, who won his 130th Port Royal feature Saturday night, were the only other cars on the lead lap. Daryl Stimeling, John Smith, Curt Stroip, and Ryan Kissinger completed the top ten.

Haus broke from the outside of the front row to lead all the way in the late models. Tim Wilson applied early pressure before defending race winner Dylan Yoder arrived from tenth in the lineup.

A year ago Yoder made a late pass of Haus to score an upset win, but Haus would protect his line this time and held on to defeat Yoder, Wilson, pole starter Gary Beward, and Waylon Wagner.

Jason Schmidt led 14 3/4 laps of the pro stock main event, but track champion John Heane made a clean pass on the final turn. Dave Bowsman took third.
