Pompey Scores At Penn Can
SUSQUEHANNA, Pa. – The great racing action continued Friday at Penn Can Speedway with five action-packed feature events thrilling the crowd, as Dan Pompey made a late-race pass on leader Nick Rochinski to claim his second modified win of the season.
In the 602 sportsman class, Alex Genneralli of Montrose survived a late race caution and held off Butch Green of Newark Valley, New York to win his second feature of his rookie season. Steven Deinhardt of Deposit, New York held off challenges of Ryan Stone of Hallstead to increase slightly his point lead in the street stock division. In factory stock racing Buck Mills and Eric Beach raced the entire fifteen lap feature side by side with Mills edging Beach at the flag. Nick Kennedy held off his three brothers to claim the four cylinder feature.
Rochinski and Adam Mac George lead the field to the green with Rochinski vaulting to the top spot. Racing action was everywhere you looked with battles for position throughout the field.
At the halfway mark Rochinski had opened up a commanding lead over MacGeorge, Loney, Pompey, Alan Rudalavage, Mike Nagel, and Brian Malcolm.
As laps clicked off Pompey cut into the Rochinski lead as the two started to catch lapped traffic. With five laps remaining the first caution of the race flew for the slowing car of Mike Nagel Jr. This set up a five-lap dash with Rochinski out front followed by Pompey, MacGeorge, Rudalavage, Loney, Malcolm, and Hartnett. When the green came back out Rochinski and Pompey raced together for the top spot with the battle for position behind just as intense.
The two leaders came to the two lap signal side by side at the flag stand. Going into turn three Pompey got a nose under and was able to take the lead at the white flag and stayed strong for his second win of the year. Roshinski came home second followed by Hartnett, MacGeorge, and Rudalavage.
