Spithaler Rules Mercer Dirt

MERCER, Pa. — Brandon Spithaler made a daring move entering turn one on the last lap to garner his third straight opening event for the 410 sprint cars Saturday night at Mercer Raceway Park.

“We’re three for three, I love opening night,” exclaimed Spithaler after exiting the car. He had to work hard, especially on the last lap, to gain the victory. “I thought that I was faster, but I didn’t know if I would be able to get by without a little help from the lapped traffic.”

Scott Priester finished second ahead of Dan Kuriger, Jack Sodeman Jr. and Eric Williams.

Gary Smoker topped the 358 modified feature and Rusty Moore won the stock car main event. Michael Bauer won the sprint warrior race and Jamey Lee was best in mini stocks.
