Hot Night, Hotter Racing At Plymouth

PLYMOUTH, Ind. – A beautiful day turned into a hot night of racing at Plymouth Speedway as four classes of cars raced and vintage race cars graced the dirt track Saturday night.

The Thunder Stocks were the first out on the track with a wild finish. Jason Atkinson started in the sixth spot but quickly set his sights on the lead with a caution-littered race which saw great battles for position. Keith Crissinger started on the pole and Bryce Shidler attempted to take the lead at the start, but couldn’t make the pass. Atkinson attempted to get the lead after a restart of the field after a caution but couldn’t clear Crissinger.

Crissinger would have the lead all the through lap eight when Shidler took over the lead. Atkinson was in the second position when he got spun around. He got his place back and focused on getting the lead. Shidler got a good jump on the restart and Atkinson just couldn’t get around Shidler. On the last lap, Atkinson and Shidler got together in turns three and four and Shidler hit the tire barrier which allowed Atkinson to slip into the lead when the checkered flag flew.

Shidler was able to continue on in his damaged car and finished fourth. Eric Brown had been sent to the back of the field after an incident on the track and battled back for a second place finish. Dennis Freeland had another podium spot in the third spot.

“I’m pretty happy about this win this week,” said Atkinson. “I couldn’t finish the heat and couldn’t finish in the feature last week, but I won it tonight.”

The Super Streets didn’t disappoint as it was a fight to the finish. Randy Akers proved he had the car to beat as he powered past Nathen Jordan on the restart for the lead after the first caution of the night. There he would stay as the others battled for position behind him. Michael Clark closed the gap on a couple of restarts, but couldn’t make the pass around the determined Akers.
