Ivy Tech Supports Indianapolis Speedrome
INDIANAPOLIS – The historic Indianapolis Speedrome has announced that Ivy Tech Community College has come onboard as the track’s new title naming rights sponsor.
“We are so proud to continue this growing sponsor partnership with Ivy Tech”, acknowledged Speedrome Marketing Director Jonathan Byrd II. “We look forward to hosting Ivy Tech students, faculty and staff along with all of our race fans as 2013 is shaping up to be the best in our 72 years.”
Ivy Tech Community College is the state’s largest public postsecondary institution and the nation’s largest singly accredited statewide community college system serving nearly 200,000 students annually. Ivy Tech has campuses throughout Indiana.
It serves as the state’s engine of workforce development, offering affordable degree programs and training that are aligned with the needs of its community along with courses and programs that transfer to other colleges and universities in Indiana. It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Ass’n.
Speedrome racing gets underway with the annual Spring Fling Championship Series on March 3. The afternoon motorsports roster includes Roadrunners, Hornets, Legends, Junior Faskarts and Junior Hornets. 2013 is a big year of events at the Speedrome which coincides with its 72nd campaign.
The action goes under the lights for the first time on April 6 with opening appearance by the Late Models and Stocks. A sample of the long list of noteworthy dates includes the 5th Annual Brian Luttrell Memorial Figure 8 (May 4), Night before the Indy 500 Figure 8 (May 25), 13th Annual Jake’s 150 (June 15), 2nd Annual United States Figure 8 Championship (June 29), 33rd Annual Sonny Thompson Memorial Figure 8 (July 20), and the 17th Annual Speedrome Stock 100 (Aug. 10). The Speedrome will release its promotional schedule within the next couple of weeks.
The two remaining marquee dates involve the clock and the most famous intersection in the city. Saturday August 30th is the 37th Annual One-Hour Figure 8 Endurance Race, the championship deciding event for the Late Models. The following weekend has become distinctively known as the Greatest Figure 8 Race on the Planet, the World Figure 8 Championship Three Hour Endurance Race. All four corners of the United States will be represented at this clash of the titans for the counties best drivers. It is a do-not-miss motorsports entertainment experience for fans that flock to this standing room only event.
