Muggy Weather Can’t Slow Eagle Valley Racers
JIM FALLS, Wis. – Hot muggy weather and the last day of a four day holiday weekend for many brought a smaller than average crowd to the Eagle Valley Speedway on Sunday.
JP Mechanical brought the Chris Bjorkstrand Memorial with increased purses in all six classes of racing with the WISSOTA AMSOIL dirt track series WISSOTA Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks, EVS Pure Stocks, and EVS Hornets. Those in attendance however, were treated to spectacular racing.
Feature winners included Mike Anderson, Tommy Richards, Shane Halopka, Ron Hanestad, George Richards and Brent Voeltz.
The Modified field was paced by Bryan Nayes and Neil Balduc with Nayes taking the point for the first few laps, eventually being overtaken by Balduc. However, at about the one quarter race point, Mike Anderson used a daring slide job to take over the lead and Kevin Adams seized the opportunity to quickly move to second.
From that point forward few eyes were trained anywhere else as two of WISSOTA’s very best literally attacked the ultrahigh groove in turns three and four and split their options with Anderson very high and Adams on the tires in turns one and two. Neither driver made any mistakes as they skillfully put on a 15 lap show for the win that was nothing less than impressive. Anderson won, followed home by Adams. Over a straight stretch behind, Jesse Glenz, Neil Balduc, and Jay Richardson filled out the top five.
The Super Stocks were led to the green by Tony Falkner and James Cimfl but third starting Tommy Richards gained the early lead. The racing for second was intense as Mark Stender earned the spot and set out to track down the leader. On lap six, Stender took the lead, sweeping by Richards on the high side but a yellow flag reset the field and gave the position back to Richards.
