Smith Controls Skyline Foes
STEWART, Ohio – Danny Smith rolled to victory in the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Ass’n 410 sprint-car feature Friday evening at Skyline Speedway.
Smith’s No. 4 started on the pole as a result of a last lap pass of Aaron Higgins in the qualifying heat race. Smith and Nathan Skaggs paced the field to the green with Smith narrowly taking the lead into turn one. Skaggs hung close for a couple laps before Higgins made it a three-way race. It didn’t stay that way for long as Smith began to stretch out his lead.
Smith was dominant from the fifth lap on in the green-to-checkered run, lapping several cars multiple times and lapping all cars up to fourth place finisher Jimmy Stinson.
Higgins and Skaggs had runs worthy of a win, but despite their awesome efforts, they had to settle for second and third respectively.
“This was tough,” Smith said after the race. “It was a demanding track tonight, a little different than what we are used to. We had it loose enough to run through the tacky parts and tight enough to run through the slick. Tonight experience paid off.”
Other winners at Skyline Friday included Andy Bond (AMRA late models), Mike McPherson (AMRA modifieds) and Cole Mayle (mini wedges).
