Friesen Keeps Rolling At Fonda

FONDA, N.Y. — Stewart Friesen, a regular for the first time at the historic Fonda Speedway, ran his batting average to .600 on the season Saturday night by easily winning his third modified feature in five starts.

The popular Canadian took the green from the eighth row but Dawin Greene hit the wall on lap two, then second running Dave Constantino hit leader Craig Hansen on the ensuing restart, sending Hansen on his roof and scrambling the field like a mix master. Friesen stood ninth for the next try and quickly took his Chad Parks owned Teo Pro car forward from there.

Mark Kislowski led briefly but Jimmy Davis, up from 13th, ran him down and blew by on lap five.

But Friesen got to second a lap later and by their tenth tour of the fairgrounds half-mile he was challenging for the lead. Friesen then drove down inside Davis as they hit turn three the next time around and drove off to a straightaway lead. They both lapped up to the top seven, with Davis nearly a half-track ahead of third place Constantino.

A.J. Romano advanced to third ahead of Kislowski, Bobby Varin, defending track champion Ronnie Johnson, Elmo Reckner, Jeff Trombley and Jeremy Wilder.

“My car was awesome and I could put it anywhere,” declared Friesen in a case of master understatement. “With all the rain this week, I didn’t expect the track to be this smooth but it was great and we used it all.”

Pete Broderson claimed the companion pro stock feature while Tony Farone led the 602 sportsman field home.
