Gilardi Masters Maynard Forrette Memorial
WEST LEBANON, N.Y. – A special Maynard Forrette Memorial big-block modified feature at Lebanon Valley Speedway Paul Gilardi score the win and take $3,000.
In the small block modifieds, young gun Brett Haas took the checkers while Jason Casey took home the Pro Stock win.
Paul Gilardi, aboard his familiar No. 87x sat on the pole for the big-block modified feature and took off from the field at the green.
The challenge for the night was an ever changing track condition and the temperatures drop as soon as the sun faded. But Gilardi had the right stuff, keep all challengers at arm’s length throughout the event.
A caution slowed the field on lap 20 for a tire issue on the 16 of Kyle Hoffman, then it was right back at the green, and right back out front for Gilardi. Fourth generation driver Bobby Hackel tried everything to get near Gilardi, but to no avail, and Paul Gilardi goes green to checkers and scored the win and an extra $3,000.
Hackel finished second followed by Mike King, Brian Berger and Rob Pitcher to complete the top-five finishers.
In the small block modified event, veteran driver Jim Rajczi brought the field to the green at the start of the 20 lap feature event. But his lead would be short lived. After a brief caution on lap three, Brett Haas charged his No. 55 out in front of the class by lap four, and checked out on the field.
Caution on lap 10 slowed the field, then on lap 11 Steve Meilleur took a scary ride down the frontstretch, bouncing off the outside wall and careening into the inside wall, ending his night.
With an OK from the driver and the car on the hook, it was back to racing as Haas was still in control, now with Frank Hoard III in hot pursuit. But Hoard nor Wayne Jelley who made a late charge into second in the closing laps could do anything with Haas.
At the checkers Haas scored the win, Jelley finished second followed by Hoard, Chad Jeseo and Brian Sandstedt.
In the Pro Stock 20-lap feature, Chad Arsenault brought the field to green, but caution flew quickly for the No. 44 of Brian Walsh who crashed into the turn three wall on the start. Then it was back to green for the No. 04, but the No. 463 of Daniel Sanchez took over the top spot going down the backstretch.
Caution flew again on lap two for a multicar incident, then again on lap six as another car ended up in the outside wall. Caution again on lap 15 for the No. 715 who met the outside wall in turn three ending his night.
All the while Sanchez was out front holding court until the closing laps when Jason Casey powered his way past Sanchez on lap 18, and that was all she wrote. At the checkers Casey takes the win, Paul LaRochelle snuck in to finish second while Sanchez had to settle for third followed by Jay Casey and Jon Routhier.
Earlier on the night, the other full fendered class, the Purestocks took to the high banks for their feature events, and the winners were John Devine in PS 1, Jason Meltz won in PS 2 and in PS3 it was John Felarecki.
In the 4 Cylinders feature, Jethro Rossan scored the win, and in the Dual Cam, it was Kenny Stager.
