Hammond Claims Legion Track Title

WENTWORTH, N.H. – Allan Hammond won the 2012 Forward’s Garage Modified Track Championship at Legion Speedway on Sunday by finishing fourth in a race won by his teammate and brother, Walt Hammond, Jr.

Both brothers praised car owners Stuart and Cathy Bean of S.K. Bean’s Enfield Garage. “We work on the cars, but they own them and they give us the best equipment that money can buy, if it wasn’t for them we wouldn’t be here,” said Allen.

Walt’s victory came after a thrilling multi-lap, side-by-side battle with second place finisher D. J. Robinson. “I don’t know that young man, we’ve never met, but my hat’s off to him- he raced me hard but he raced me clean,” Walt said.

It wasn’t just wreckers to checkers for Luke Greenwood in the Papa Z’s 600cc Mini Sprints, it was ambulance to ecstasy. Last week, Greenwood suffered perhaps the most serious wreck of the season when a steering component failed causing him to hit the turn one wall at full speed and flip. After several tense moments in front of a hushed grandstand, Greenwood emerged to walk to the ambulance. This week he returned with a new car and used it to earn his third feature win of the season. “Since we wrecked the other car, we’re breaking this one in for the Linda’s Nationals. It can go faster but it was getting a little hot so I had to pedal it on a few corners because I didn’t want to pop the engine. It was a good run and I’m glad we finally got some good luck.”

Tim Martin likes the late season. He resumed his remarkable renaissance by picking up his second consecutive Legion Speedway Outlaw Mini Stock feature to go with his win at Bear Ridge Speedway last week. “When it’s dry here we can really hook up and the cautions came our way. I had a good time racing Kevin Harran door to door.”

Jason Giguere was awarded the win in the Street Stocks after first place finisher J.P. Vaillancourt was penalized two positions for chopping and subsequently disqualified for post-race conduct. It was Giguere’s second win of the season.
