Hearn Back In Control At Albany-Saratoga
MALTA, N.Y. – A week ago, Brett Hearn took a challenge from the Albany-Saratoga Speedway promoter and accepted $500 to start in the last row.
While he got into the top 10, he had no shot at winning the DIRTcar modified feature, so this week Hearn both started and finished in his normal positions, 15th and first, respectively.
Neil Stratton led front row companion Mike Perrotte in the early going but dropped out on lap four, putting Perrotte on top until Matt DeLorenzo sailed by three laps later. By lap ten, last week’s winner, Kenny Tremont, was fourth from 14th but Hearn was right on his tail. Six laps later Tremont was going around DeLorenzo when Hearn amazed the crowd by shooting between them to grab a lead he would never relinquish.
By the time a lap 32 yellow got Hearn out of traffic, Marc Johnson had clawed his way to second from deep in the pack but he had nothing for Hearn. DeLorenzo was third ahead of Tremont, Ronnie Johnson, Perrotte, Pete Britten, Don Ronca, Keith Flach and Rich Ronca.
Tim Hartman won his second consecutive Sportsman feature over Jack Gentile and Jake Scarborough.
