Hearn Hustles At Albany-Saratoga

MALTA, N.Y. — If DIRTcar modified star Brett Hearn was to adopt a motto, it might well be “You can run but you can’t hide.”

For the second consecutive Friday, Hearn drove from deep in the field to run down the front row starters and claim the 35-lap feature at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway.

Mike Perrotte and Elmo Reckner dueled early on as the 14th-starting Hearn clawed his way forward. Aided by seemingly endless yellows that kept the field closed up, Hearn was already third when Reckner finally got the lead from Perrotte on lap 12. It took him six laps to dispatch Perrotte, then sat alongside Reckner for a restart one lap later.

It took five restarts to get from lap 19 to lap 21, with Hearn trying Reckner on the outside each time. He finally made it stick on the final restart and cruised to Victory lane ahead of Jeff Trombley, who dropped Reckner a spot on the last lap. Jeremy Wilder, Marc Johnson, Ronnie Johnson and Kenny Tremont, who lined up 31st, trailed.

Nick Stone won the Pro-stock feature with a last turn pass of Robbie Speed.
