Hile Triumphs At Fulton
FULTON, N.Y – The Hiles are known as one of the hardest working family teams in Modified racing. On Saturday night at Fulton Speedway, all their hard work and late nights in their Syracuse, N.Y race shop paid off as Chris Hile won his second career Fulton Speedway Big Block Modified feature.
Chris Hile took the lead on the opening lap of the 35-Lap Tracey Road Equipment DIRTcar Modified feature. Once in the lead, Hile was a rocket the entire distance as he was never seriously challenged by any of the speedway’s heavy hitters.
Other winners on the WOLF 105.1 New Country night were, AJ Kingsley, NAPA Late Models, Shannon Pitcher, E&V Energy Novice Sportsman, John Cunningham, A-Verdi Storage Containers 305 Sprints, Chuck Powelczyk, and Hilton’s Automotive Four Cylinders.
Tony Finch II won the SUNY Canton Sportsman feature.
Chris Hile took the lead from his third starting spot when front row starters Katelyn Kane and Adam Roberts made contact on the back straight sending Kane’s front end high in the air slamming back down on the track surface. When the field stacked up Rob Bellinger slid into the infield making hard contact with an implement tire. Kane and Bellinger both went to the pits and returned on the lead lap.
On lap-5 Hile had built-up a half-a-straightaway lead while Roberts, Tim Currier, Chris Mackey and Billy Decker, who started sixteenth, ran in a tight pack. In turns three and four Mackey and Decker made contact with their front tires sending Mackey around. Behind the spinning Mackey the field stacked up in turn four collecting Jimmy Phelps, Ryan Phelps, Tom Sears and Matt Hulsizer. Mackey, Ryan Phelps and Jimmy Phelps, who was second in points, saw their nights end in the pits.
With 10-Laps complete, Hile again was a rocket on the top of the speedway building up a full straightaway lead on Roberts who ran alone in second. Behind the top-two Currier, Chuck Bower, Decker and Ward were in a tight battle for third through sixth.
On lap-14 the yellow came out when Tom Sears lopped in turn two. At the same time points leader Larry Wight went pit-side after battling power steering problems.
By lap-20 Hile once again drove out to a straightaway lead as Bower, running second, looked for a way to close in. Decker, Ward and Roberts still showed in the top-five.
With 10-laps to go Hile would run the top in one and two and entering turn three and then would dart to the bottom exiting turn four as he maintained his big lead. Bower still ran in second as Decker started to close in on him for the runner-up spot.
Over the final laps Chris Hile didn’t miss a beat as he drove away for his second career Fulton feature win. Decker came on late finishing second followed by Bower, Ward and Matt Roberts to round out the top five.
“It feels good. It’s really tough to get feature wins here and at Brewerton because the competition is so stiff,” Hile said.
