NYSCA Hall Induction Set For Jan. 26

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – January may be the heart of the winter season but on Jan. 26, memories of warm summer nights and races won and lost on the Empire State’s many speedways will warm the hearts of those attending the annual New York State Stock Car Ass’n Hall of Fame induction.

Set for 11 a.m., the annual ceremony will recognize six men who have contributed greatly to the sport over their careers. They include promoter and DIRT mastermind Glenn Donnelly, outstanding drivers George Kent, Bob Devine and Don Diffendorf, master engine builder Walt Markert and well-known racing journalist Ron Hedger.

MC’d by Schenectady Daily Gazette Sports Editor Tom Boggie, the program will introduce the inductees to the public and give each a chance to recall highlights of their careers as well as interact with the audience.

The auto museum is the site of the organization’s permanent Hall of Fame display and the public will get their first look at each inductees’s individual tag on the display. Additionally, tags for each of the 16 Hall of Fame members added during ceremonies held trackside at speedways around the region during the 2012 season will also be unveiled. Inductees will also be introduced at the evening’s annual NYSSCA awards banquet in Albany.

The Saratoga ceremony has become a major gathering of racing insiders, historians, fans, old timers and officials over the years and with the all-star group of inductees slated to be on hand, the 2013 edition should again attract an all-star crowd.
