Reed Races To Wall Stadium Victory

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Modified stock car driver Steven Reed raced to his second straight opening win at Wall Stadium Speedway on Saturday night.

When the Freehold resident won a year ago, he proposed marriage to his girlfriend Katie in the winner’s circle. Now married, following his most recent opening night win Reed said that the couple is expecting their first child in October.

After posting the fastest lap during time trials Reed had luck on his side as he picked the pole position in a blind draw for the 40-lap main event. Reed rocketed to the lead at the outset as several drivers fought for the runner-up spot close behind.

With just a few cautions for minor incidents slowing the event, the pace was frantic as drivers including Adam LaCicero of Lavallette, Freehold’s Chas Okerson and Howell’s Eric Mauriello wrestled for second.

At the finish Reed was chased across the line by 2012 Sportsman champ Mauriello, while Okerson, LaCicero and Brick’s Shawna Ingraham completed the top five.

“My father gets all the credit for this win,” Reed said. “He built the car and he had some ideas how to change it for the better last winter. He took it all apart and made those changes. The car was great tonight.”

Freehold’s Elliott Wohl was the opening night winner in the Sportsman division holding off Zack Alspach of Willingboro and Howell’s Kevin Davison before taking the win. A big turning point in the 30-lapper came with just six laps remaining as Wohl spun from the lead on the front stretch. Less than a lap later a caution waved for a competitor’s blown motor and since scoring reverted to the last completed lap Wohl was returned to the lead.
