Sowle, Flach & Friesen At Albany-Saratoga

MALTA, N.Y. — JaMike Sowle, Keith Flach and Stewart Friesen shared modified wins on Friday night’s Triple-20s at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway, ironically sponsored by Sowle’s father through his truck repair business.

Sowle’s triumph in the opener was his second of the season, while Flach’s marked his first on dirt, though he had won when the speedway was asphalt. As for Friesen, his win in his first outing in the Jeff Daley #44 marked his first this season at Albany-Saratoga after struggling in his prior ride.

Jimmy Cottrell led the opener until a lap nine restart, when Sowle, up from fifth, left early and got a lead he would hold to the checkers. Cottrell led Brian Gleason, Body Bellinger, Jeremy Wilder and Australian Peter Britten to the line.

After inverting the top 15, Neil Stratton led round two early on but first Don Ronca and then Flach took command. Kenny Tremont Jr got to second and made a run at Flach on a lap-11 restart but couldn’t put him away and Marc Johnson slipped by on the inside to take second ahead of Tremont, Matt DeLorenzo, Ronca and Britten.

A similar invert put Cottrell and Friesen on the front row for the nightcap, which took four tries to get started as turn four crashes were the norm. But the green finally stayed out and Friesen led all the way with Cottrell in tow. Ronnie Johnson fought his way to third ahead of Johnson, Stratton and Bellinger.

Mike Ostrander edged Jeremy Pitts and Brent Wright in the Sportsman main while Dan Older prevailed by inches over Kim Duell in the pro stock finale.
