Spencer To Host 17 Nights Of Racing
WILLIAMSON, N.Y. – Spencer Speedway has set a 17-date NASCAR weekly racing schedule, featuring the Sunoco Modifieds, Super Sixes and the 4-Cylinder classes.
The INEX Legend cars are also a big part of the schedule at Spencer Speedway as they are set to appear 11 times this year.
Spencer Speedway is celebrating its 60th year of operation since that first racing event held on Aug. 8, 1955. Bob Cameron took the 20-lap sportsman victory in the inaugural event. Tragically Cameron was killed in a fiery racing accident a few years later.
Also winning sportsman races at Spencer in 1955 were eventual track champion Lee Bliss, Dutch Hoag and Ted Jones.
A number of super stock races are on the schedule this season. The Big 10 Super Stocks start off the year on May 16 followed by the NYS Super Stocks the following week. The Big 10 Series returns on July 11, while the NYS Series races on June 20, July 25, Aug. 1 as well as Aug. 15 for the annual Dave London Memorial race. The Super Stocks will also be a big part of the season finale on Sept. 5.
Also joining in the 60th anniversary festivities are the USAC Ford Focus Midgets on Aug. 1 and the NYS Midgets on Aug. 22. The RoC Modifieds will be running a 75-lap Race of Champions qualifier on June 6 and the Mid-State Vintage cars race on June 27.
To celebrate the anniversary date on Aug. 8, there will be a a full program of Super Six and 4-Cylinder action as well as a 60-lap special event run by the Sunoco Modifieds.
“We were looking for something special for the anniversary date,” commented track promoter John White. “There will be a number of specialty things going on that night as well.”
