Totten & Dietz Split Holland Features

HOLLAND, N.Y. – Kirk Totten and Neal Dietz Jr. split the twin 35’s for the Getzoni Nationwide Insurance NASCAR Pro Modifieds on US Air Force, Rupp Overhead Door and VSP Marketing Group night at the Holland NASCAR Motorsports Complex on Saturday night.

With the victory in the first Pro Modified feature, Totten is now guaranteed a top 12 starting spot for the Race of Champions (RoC) Sportsman 100 set for the Oswego Speedway on July 19. Brandon Glover swept both events for the McClurg Auto Group NASCAR Late Models. Eric Brown picked up his first career Bank of Holland Chargers feature win.

Camden Barber picked up his second consecutive NYPAMA TQ Midgets. Scott Wylie picked up the win for the Cup Lites while Jason Adams picked up his second straight M&M U Pull It Figure 8’s feature. .

The father and son duo of Dave and Tommy Catalano led the field of Pro Modifieds to the green flag for their make-up 30 lap feature and it was Tommy jumping out to the early lead. Former divisional champion Neal Dietz Jr. quickly raced his way into second and Kirk Totten racing in third.

Dietz got loose down the front stretch and Totten was able to capitalize to move into the runner up position. Then on lap 12, Totten was able to take over the race lead. Dietz and Catalano went side by side for several circuits as George Skora III stuck his Southern Erie Construction 65 to make it a three car battle for second place.

The three competitors raced hard throughout the feature event and on lap 22, Dietz was able to take over second and two laps later, Skora got around Tommy Catalano to move into third place. Kirk Totten was able to drive away to pick up his second win of the season. Neal Dietz Jr. would cross the line in second and was followed to the line by George Skora III, Tommy Catalano and Jeff Brown.

“The car was fast and I am glad to be back in victory lane,” said race winner Totten in victory lane.

In their Midseason Championship event, the field of Getzoni Nationwide Insurance Agency Pro Modifieds was led to the green flag by Rusty Smith and Dave Catalano and it was Catalano leading the opening circuit. Neal Dietz Jr. raced on by 2011 New York State NASCAR Champion Amy Catalano to move into third and just two laps later, passed Smith to move into second.

Dietz caught Dave Catalano on lap seven and began to put pressure and on lap nine, went underneath Catalano to take the race lead. With Dietz showing the way, Jeff Brown and George Skora III were able to pass Catalano to move into third and fourth. At the halfway mark it was Dietz in the lead with Brown, Skora, Rusty Smith and Dave Catalano in the top five.

Kirk Totten, who won the first feature of the night, pulled into the infield after smoke bellowed underneath the Eastern Speed and Performance machine. Meanwhile, George Skora passed Brown for second and began his chase of race leader Neal Dietz with 10 laps remaining. Skora caught Dietz with six laps remaining and he began to apply the pressure.

Skora was able to outrace Dietz going into the corners but Dietz had the speed on the straightaway. Dietz would hold off Skora for the win with Brown, Smith and Dave Catalano completing the top five.
