Tremont Tops Sponsor’s Night
MALTA, N.Y. — Nothing makes a sponsor any happier than winning on their “night” at the speedway and Kenny Tremont did just that for Rifenburgh Construction Friday night at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway.
When the green flew for the 35-lapper, Tremont blasted forward from the fifth row and by lap seven was third behind Josh Hohenforst and Elmo Reckner. He grabbed second the next time around the three-eighths-mile oval and on lap ten sailed around Hohenforst on the outside of turn three.
But arch rival Brett Hearn, the big early season winner at Albany-Saratoga, was on the move from15th and was third at halfway. He closed on the leader as Tremont got bottled up by lapped cars but on lap 20 Tremont took a deep breath and drove between two lapped cars to rebuild his lead.
“I wasn’t sure of the guy on the bottom but he stayed down and I made it,” offered Tremont. “I was pretty happy with that. Late in the race I figured Brett was behind me but I never heard or saw him.”
Hearn caught Reckner for second on lap 26 but never got a good run on Tremont once both got back in the open. 13th starting Ronnie Johnson made a late charge to snare third, with Reckner, Jeff Trombley, Matt DeLorenzo, Hohenforst, last week’s winner Mike Perrotte, Jason Herrington and Don Ronca trailing.
Rob Yetman claimed the companion pro stock feature.
