990 Entries And 241 Races At Tulsa Shootout

TULSA, Okla. — With only three of the eight Golden Drillers handed out on Sunday going to a previous winner, the 28th annual Speedway Motors Tulsa Shootout presented by Vacuworx Global saw a record number of entries for the featured classes with 990 officially drawing in for competition over the two-day event.

A total of 241 races were contested on the quarter-mile Tulsa Expo Raceway with drivers from 22 states including Canada represented at the Micro Sprint Car extravaganza inside the Tulsa Expo Center.

With the staggering number of cars and races, a third day is scheduled to be added in 2013.

With several first time winners at this year’s Tulsa Shootout, it was the “A” Class Non-Wing feature with Chris Cochran keeping the Driller in its home state that kicked off the night’s Championship Features. Pennsylvania picked up bragging rights in the 1,200cc Mini Sprints when Michael Dicely picked his first Shootout triumph. .

The Driller stayed in Tulsa as Chris Andrews became the first of three former Shootout Champion to pick up the coveted trophy in the Outlaw Non-Wing Division. The Junior Sprints saw a spirited battle as Jadon Rodgers took the Driller home to Indiana.

California’s Michael Faccinto rocketed to victory in the “A” Class feature event with Tulsa’s Brian McClelland taking the ECOtec driller. The Restricted “A” Class feature saw California’s Danhe Lynn McKay repeating her 2011 success with back to back Drillers. Taking a third Golden Driller back to the Left Coast, Heath Dunkerken returned to claim his second Outlaw feature championship in as many years, besting the 24-car field in the night’s 55-lap finale.
