Ith Collects Maverik Modified Paycheck
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – Mark Ith Jr. found his way to the Maverik Modifieds’ winners circle for the third time this season on Saturday at Rocky Mountain Raceways.
Michael Haddenham made a quick jump to the lead and maintained his position until lap 37 of the 50-lap main. Johnny Luttmer also had a strong presence at the front of the field, running in second with defending Maverik Modified Champion, Tyler Whetstone close on his heels. After a restart, Whetstone passed Luttmer for the second spot and set his sights on Haddenham.
In a string of passes, Whetstone briefly held the top spot before Ith maneuvered his way to the lead. With 10 laps to go, Ith led the field to the checkered flag. Whetstone finished in second, Haddenham finished in third, Lynn Hardy finished in fourth, and Eric Rhead rounded out the top five.
With just three Maverik Modified races left in the 2014 season, Whetstone maintains his defending championship campaign with Hardy running second in points and Ith running third in points.
Multi-class champion, Jimmy Wysong claimed the winged sprint car main event win. Tonight’s race marked Wysong’s first appearance on the America First Credit Union Super Oval in the 2014 season. Wysong crossed the finish line ahead of Jimmy Waters in second and Ryan Burdett in third.
Additional RMR Oval Racing Series winners included Jimmy Waters (Focus Midget), Tracy Eaton (Figure-8 Car) and Jack Wagon (Western States Equipment Figure-8 Trains.)
