Strickler Captures Harris Clash
KNOXVILLE, Iowa — Kyle Strickler won a late duel with Jeremy Mills to win the 21st annual Harris Clash for IMCA Modifieds Thursday night at the Knoxville Raceway.
It was the Mooresville, N.C., driver’s first victory at the historic half-mile.
Matt Lettow won his second career feature in the Harris Clash in the Sport Mod division.
Strickler gained the early lead from outside row one in the 25-lapper and began to pull away. The race, which went non-stop, heated up late in the going. Mills gained on the leader and took the point by a nose on lap 23. The pair dueled the final two laps with Strickler running Mills above the cushion a bit in turns three and four to hold him off.
“I don’t know what to say,” said Strickler. “The car was pretty good. I don’t know what was wrong under the hood, but there was something covering my shield late in the going. This is just unreal. This is the biggest win of my career. I have to thank everyone who has ever worked on my race cars.”
Joel Rust led early in the 20-lap Sport Mod feature. Matt Lettow began to challenge just before the halfway mark and made the winning pass on lap 11. He held off the field despite a caution with two laps to go.
