Lubbock Speedway Returns To IMCA
LUBBOCK, Texas – Lubbock Speedway returns to the IMCA ranks in 2013, with four sanctioned divisions on Friday night race programs.
Point rates for the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and IMCA Southern SportMods begin with the March 8-10 Spring Classic, then run from March 29 through the season-ending special Aug. 30-Sept. 1.
“The rules are structured. I don’t have to worry about writing them. All I have to do is enforce them,” promoter Barry Joachim said. “I like having a sanctioning body to back us up.”
He’s in his 14th season as owner of Lubbock, which opens again after staying dark for the past two years. IMCA Modifieds last ran on the three-eighths-mile black clay oval in 2004, the Stocks and Southern SportMods last in 2008.
“Hobby Stocks will be new this year,” said Joachim. “I had about 14 guys from surrounding communities that called and asked for us to sanction the class so they’d have a place to race for points, too.”
Feature events will be held each night of the Spring Classic with $1,000 to win features on Friday, March 8 for the Southern SportMods, Saturday, March 9 for the I-Stocks and Sunday, March 10 for the Modifieds.
Sunday’s headliner is a qualifier for the 2013 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot.
Modifieds at Lubbock are part of the BillsBuilt South Central Region. Stock Car points figure toward Arnold Motor Supply Southern Region standings and Hobby Stock points toward Stephenville Starter Southern Region standings.
IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded in all four divisions at Lubbock.
