Memphis Road Course Renovation Complete
MILLINGTON, Tenn. – This weekend Memphis Int’l Raceway opens its new and improved High Performance Road Course.
The 1.77 mile closed course underwent a major renovation and improvement project completed on Thursday just in time to host Porsche Club of America’s Driver’s Ed this weekend. The Road Course has had no major renovations since it was originally built in 1986.
“It was time,” said Pam Kendrick, Vice President and General Manager of Memphis Int’l Raceway. “Since the facility reopened in late 2011 we have made numerous improvements such as additions of grandstands, facility and equipment upgrades and refurbishing the paved oval, but were not in a position to make the improvements we wanted on the road course until now. This significant investment in our Road Course allowed us to resurface the entire course from the shutdown area of the drag strip to the re-enty onto the drag strip – just at 1.5 miles. I think our racers will be pleased and we will now be able to expand our program on the Road Course,” said Kendrick.
Memphis Int’l Raceway’s Professional Road Course is now in pristine condition and guarantees thrills to match any driver’s skills. The 1.77 mile road course features fast and challenging corners all set up by long straight a ways and is considered one of the most competitive in the Mid-South.
“Memphis Int’l Raceway is regarded as one of the most versatile and premier motorsport and entertainment facilities in the Mid-South. It is our company’s goal to continually improve our facilities and expand our schedule and racing facilities,” said Kendrick.
The Road Course is available for private testing, corporate and group team building events and drifting events. MIR’s road course hosts various acclaimed driving schools including National Auto Sports Ass’n, BMW Car Club, Porsche Club of America, who routinely hold driving schools, races and autocross events.
