Moonshine Modifieds Debut In Callaway
CALLAWAY, Va. – Sunday marks the first race for Franklin County Speedway’s new modified division, the Moonshine Modifieds.
As part of the celebration of the track’s tradition, Steven Ray Tickle, a star of Discovery Channel’s hit reality show “Moonshiners,” will serve as the grand marshal on May 10.
The Moonshine Modifieds debut will have drivers from various parts of the region converge on Franklin County Speedway.
“This area’s into Modifieds and they haven’t really had a class here much over the years and that’s why we wanted to create the class,” Franklin County Speedway Promoter Langley Austin said. “I think it’s going to be big. We’ve got five or six local guys that already have cars and are ready to go. There are five or six more that will build cars over the next few months. We’ve got guys coming from Ace (N.C.) Speedway and other places as well. I think the Moonshine Modifieds will be a big deal.”
Jay Havens, Corey Agee and Chad Conner are among the list of locals competing in the Moonshine Modified division. Other drivers expected to travel from other parts of the region include Joe Scarborough and Lauren Edgerton.
The Moonshine Modified name pays tribute to the heritage of Franklin County, known as the Moonshine Capital of the World.
“It’s awesome to have Tickle on hand for the race,” Austin said. “We’re proud of the heritage here in Franklin County and we like to pay tribute to that as much as we can. ‘Moonshiners’ is a popular television show, and we’re thrilled to have one of their cast members on hand for the inaugural Moonshine Modified race.”
