Nasse Scores Second Red-Eye 100 Victory
NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – Stephen Nasse was in the right place at the right time to score his second victory in the Red-Eye 100 for super late models at New Smyrna Speedway Saturday night.
Rich Clouser got the lead at the outset of the 100-lap main event, but was chased by Travis Cope. Nasse, who set fast time and started fifth after an inversion, quickly raced his way up to third behind the leaders.
Cope made his move on lap 44, pulling to the inside of Clouser. Two laps later Cope got the lead, but contact with Clouser sent Cope into the inside wall. Cope’s night was done and Clouser was sent to the rear of the field for causing the incident.
That gave Nasse the lead, a position he didn’t give up for the remainder of the event. Michael Lira, Danny Foster, Spencer Davis and Chad Allman completed the top five.
Gus Dean and Clouser originally finished second and third, but both were disqualified in post-race technical inspection.
Preliminary event winners included Matt Wheeler (modifieds), Dude Teate (mini stocks), Shannon Kelly (super stocks) and Mark Shukwit (strictly stocks).
